Corda Counselling Incorporated

With 15 years of experience in the field of Social Work, April Thornton has served in various roles within Indigenous communities. She values the lifelong relationships and connections she has developed, as these connections significantly influenced how she helps and connects with others.

Throughout her journey, April has committed herself to her growth and learning as a Helper, Counsellor, Registered Social Worker, and Psychotherapist. As a Certified Addictions Counsellor in Canada, she uses research-based methods to assist clients in achieving their recovery goals. With additional training in EMDR, CBT, and ART, she tailors each plan to meet the unique needs of the individuals she supports. Although the journey to recovery can be challenging, April has structured her practice with multiple layers of support tailored to meet individual needs.

In addition, being trained in Play Therapy Techniques, April incorporates this natural form of expression when working primarily with children. Play therapy helps children and youth process and express confusing experiences. By addressing emotional challenges through play, young individuals can develop a stronger sense of self and build healthier relationships. Incorporating play therapy into her sessions fosters support and communication, providing a safe environment for expressing emotions without the need for direct verbalization.
